Obama. Barack Obama (II)

Juste avant l'onction d'Obama (et son speech) le 20 janvier dernier, quatre musiciens superstars (Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Anthony McGill,Gabriela Montero) ont interprété "Air and Simple Gifts", un morceau composé pour l'occasion par John Williams.

J'aime les discours officiels, car ils ont toujours un petit côté tambours et trompettes fort émouvant. Ils sont l'expression de la solennellité de l'Histoire, et regorgent donc inévitablement d'envolées lyrico-sentimentales peu communes.

Ainsi, le speech inaugural d'Obama est-il truffé de métaphores et autres formules de style, présentées dans un anglais si beau qu'il en devient presque du chinois pour la nation à qui il est adressé.

"(...)To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist".

Bon la dernière phrase semble sortir de la Bible (Ancien Testament), mais ça a de la gueule quand même.

Obama est un rhéteur averti...Souvenez-vous de son victory speech en novembre 2008...on en a tous eu des frissons:

"Hello, Chicago.

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer (...)".

Comme l'analyse le célèbre linguiste David Crystal sur son blog, ce discours était remarquable:

"Dream' is a powerful word in American political rhetoric, thanks to Martin Luther King. King is not mentioned in the speech, but he is there in spirit, from the beginning to the end. Obama's opening words link dreams to questions. His closing words link dreams to answers. The speech is a Martin Luther King sandwich, and it went down very very well indeed" (lire l'article en entier ici)
